NEW DELHI, December 31—Holding the BJP Government at the Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi responsible for the economic distress, rising unemployment, price rise, divisive Citizenship Amendment Act, misleading information and betrayal of the people living in unauthorized colonies and JJ clusters, ever-rising pollution levels in the Capital, a large number of Congress workers and leaders under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Chopra sat on a “Samuhik Upwaas” opposite the Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan, near Regal building, Connaught Place on New Year-eve today from 5.30 p.m. Despite heavy police security, and bone-chilling cold, Congress workers from across Delhi assembled for the ‘Upwaas. Along with Subhash Chopra, prominent others who sat on the ‘Samuhik Upwaas’ were P.C.Chacko, Ramesh Kumar, Mukesh Sharma, Dr. Narender Nath, Dr. Kiran Walia and Mangat Ram Singhal.
Along with the Congress workers, a large number of young people and shoppers, who assembled in Connaught Place for the New Year-eve celebration, also participated in the ‘ Samuhik Upwaas’ to express their angst against the Modi Government at the Centre and the Kejriwal Government in Delhi as they have put the lives of the people in turmoil.
A big police force and top officials tried to apply force to remove the Congress workers, resulting in a clash between the two groups. Following this, Police arrested Subhash Chopra, P.C.Chacko, Mukesh Sharma, Dr. Narender Nath, Dr. Kiran Walia, Mangat Ram Singhal and a large number of Congress workers, and they were taken to the Mandir Marg police station. The BJP and AAP have been totally rattled by the determined ‘Samuhik Upwaas’ by the Congress workers and leaders.
When the Police took Subhash Chopra and the arrested Congress leaders and workers to the Mandir Marg station, they continued their protest there too, and refused to be let out on bail.
Addressing the Congress workers and common citizens, Subhash Chopra said that the country and the Capital were witnessing turmoil and volatile times following the Modi Government’s bid to force the Citizenship Amendment Act on the people, which has virtually set the country aflame.
He said that both BJP and AAP have betrayed the people of unauthorized colonies and JJ Clusters as they are being misled by these parties to collet lakhs of rupees from them in the name of giving ownership rights, which was an anti-people move.
He said that over 40 lakh people are bitter and angry at the BJP and AAP for misleading them in the matter of regularization of unauthorized colonies.
Chopra said that the AAP Government has deceived the residents of JJ Clusters by handing them the survey slips without giving them any land or constructing in-situ flats for them.
Subhash Chopra and P.C.Chacko said that economic distress across the country has driven people to misery. They said that the GDP growth has not only been witnessing a free fall, and after demonetization, the country and Delhi have been caught in ever-rising unemployment.
They said that over 18 lakh young people in Delhi alone were without jobs. Chopra and Chacko said that the Kejriwal Government has betrayed the contract workers by not regularizing them in their jobs.
They said that regular harassment of e-rickshaw drivers by the police and other Government officials have made their life miserable.
They said that the ever-shooting prices of essential commodities have made the lives of the common people and the poor unbearable.
They said that the prices of onions and other items have sky-rocketed making these items beyond the purchasing power of the common people.
They said that daily use items like milk, gas cylinder and petrol have become dearer to upset the household budgets of the people.
Mukesh Sharma said that no Congress worker will participate in any kind of New Year-eve celebration.
He said that the BJP and AAP have not only been rattled by the aggressive Congress agitations against them, but they also smell their defeat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.
He said that the manner in which Congress workers are being arrested and assaulted by the police at the direction of the Union Home Minister was highly condemnable.
Sharma announced that the Congress workers will ghearo the residences of BJP and AAP Ministers and leaders for their anti-people policies.
