NEW DELHI, January 7—After the announcement of the date for the Delhi Assembly elections, Congress party ticket-seekers made a beeline at the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee office, Rajiv Bhawan, here today, as DPCC president Subhash Chopra made a strong pitch for the party’s success.
Ticket aspirants, along with their supporters, met Subhash Chopra and staked their claims for the various Assembly seats in Delhi.
Addressing the Congress workers, Subhash Chopra said that after witnessing the strong position of the party in Delhi, particularly after the party’s aggressive campaigns against the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party, leaders and workers from other parties want to join the Congress party.
Taking a swipe at some pre-election surveys, Chopra said that during the Haryana Assembly elections, some surveys gave only three seats to the Congress, and these pollsters had to eat their words after the results were announced.
Subhash Chopra said that the Congress party is well-positioned in Delhi, and the party will fare better than in Haryana.
He reiterated his stated position that Congress will form Government on its own might and appealed to the Congress workers to make door to door visits to tell people about the Congress party’s brilliant track record in the past, and popularize the programmes and policies of the party.
He exhorted the Congress workers to expose the hollow promises and failures of both the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party in the past six years.
Chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said that the party has been getting many applications for each of the 70 Assembly seats, adding that the final candidate selection will be done only after taking the popularity, commitment and win ability of a candidate into consideration.
He said that things have been set in motion at the district, block and Pradesh levels for candidates’ selection.
Sharma said that both BJP and AAP have been shaken up by the strong position of the party in Delhi, and that was the reason these parties were resorting to false propaganda in a futile bid to retrieve their fast-eroding support base.
