Eros TimesEROS TIMES Delhi: Taking note of the importance and high regard that the Chhath Mahaparv holds in the Indian Society, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to the Delhi LG seeking his permission to hold Chhath celebrations. The CM has urged the LG to allow Chhath Mahaparv celebrations in Delhi as the COVID-situation is under control and many other states have allowed it as well. The CM said Chhath is an important part of our Vedic Aryan culture; people worship Surya Dev and Chhathi Maiyya to seek health, prosperity and peace. He further stated that Chhath can be celebrated while following COVID-norms; request you to convene a DDMA meeting and grant permission.

In the letter, the Chief Minister said, “the people of Delhi celebrate Chhath Puja every year with great faith and reverence. This festival is an important part of our Vedic Aryan culture. People seek health, prosperity and peace by worshiping the Surya Dev and Chhathi Maiyya in the auspicious Chhath Puja.”
COVID spread under control in Delhi for the last three months: CM Arvind Kejriwal
He further writes, “the spread of COVID has been under control in Delhi for the last three months. I am of the opinion that we should be allowed to celebrate Chhath Puja while keeping in mind the COVID protocols.”
The CM also took to Twitter to appeal to the LG and said, “I have urged Hon’ble LG to allow Chhath Pooja celebrations in Delhi. Corona is now in control and many other states have allowed it.”
Request you to convene a DDMA meeting and grant permission for Chhath Puja
Concluding the letter, the CM states, “neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan etc., have also allowed the celebration of Chhath Puja with appropriate restrictions for the safety of their residents. I request you to convene a meeting of DDMA at the earliest and grant permission to organist Chhath Puja celebrations.”
Kejriwal Government had also written to the Union Health Minister earlier
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had written a letter to the Central Government seeking permission to organise Chhath Mahaparv in Delhi. The Deputy Chief Minister had written this letter to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday, urging him to allow Chhath Puja and issue necessary guidelines regarding the event.
COVID situation under control in Delhi: Dy CM Manish Sisodia
Appealing to the Central Government and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, the Deputy Chief Minister had said that the cases of COVID are coming in low numbers in Delhi and the situation is very much under control. He had stated that in view of the situation, the Central Government, in consultation with health experts and the people concerned, should issue necessary guidelines regarding celebrating Chhath Mahaparv this year as soon as possible. He said that the guidelines are necessary so that all the people can get clarity and direction on celebration of the festival keeping in mind their faith and safety.
Kejriwal Government raised the number of Chhath Ghats from 72 to 1,200
Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party Government was formed in Delhi under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Government has been making special arrangements for the people of Purvanchal to celebrate Chhath Puja. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself went ahead and made special arrangements at the ghats. Earlier there were no facilities for the people of Purvanchal on the Ghats. But in view of the faith of the people of Purvanchal in the Chhath Mahaparv, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal started Chhath Puja from 72 Chhath Ghats and increased it to more than 1200 Chhath Ghats all over Delhi. All necessary facilities like electricity and water were provided by the Delhi government at all these ghats.
